The Flightdeck &amp; Airspace Technology Engineer is the primary POC and staff SME on the development of technical specifications, standards, and policies on flight deck-related technologies. This includes radar altimeters and the associated issues of aviation spectrum policy, aircraft flight deck cybersecurity, and flight deck technologies that advance safety or otherwise interact with Air Traffic Control (ATC) Communications, Navigation and Surveillance (CNS) technologies. The position serves as the staff SME on airspace modernization initiatives involving aircraft and ATC system upgrades including technologies such as ADS-B, Data Communication, and Performance-Based Navigation (PBN), and their interaction with air traffic control systems.\n<br/>\n<br/>\nThe engineer monitors and supports the Association's actions on the development of consensus on industry standards, airspace modernization plans, proposed regulations, and policies at both the strategic and tactical levels. This position also performs monitoring, capacity planning and performance tuning along with managing the availability of the database server environment to ensure that no unplanned disruptions or data loss occurs. The EDE I requires comprehensive technical knowledge and experience in one or more of the following enterprise database solutions; MS SQL Server, Oracle, Sybase, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB or MUMPS/CACHE. The EDE I is responsible for; install and maintain database software and patches, security compliance, capacity planning, test and upgrade software releases, build databases, maintain system level tables, provide support, monitor database instances and servers daily on Linux and Windows based platforms, provide database backup and recovery solutions, implement new technology, and create documentation. Day to day activities include integrating additions and changes into the existing database infrastructure, performance tuning, capacity planning, addressing memory and disk configurations, and automating and managing the database backup and recovery processes, problem resolution and technical support. The position also works as part of a cross-functional teams that deals with the full spectrum of database technology.\n<br/>\n<br/>\nResponsibilities:\n<br/>\n<br/>\nStrategy &amp; Planning – Assists in overall architectural design of database standards, assists in the design of new database installations that meet the information system vision and strategy of the organization and advise on matters including memory, disk configuration, sharing host with other applications, etc.; plans, prioritizes, and manages service requests, and routine assignments.\n<br/>\nSystem Engineering - Analyzes database configurations; evaluates changes and provides input to the decision-making process relative to resource requirements, and maintenance; creates backup and maintenance plans and recommendations to improve the performance and efficiency of the database infrastructure; prevents unplanned disruptions, especially of critical systems.
